The many charms of the city of Bath

Bath is a beautiful city and a stunning place to live in many respects, at its centre it was mainly built in the Georgian era of honey coloured stone and is rightly famous for stunning crescents such as the Royal Crescent and Lansdown crescent, both being two of the most desirable places to own a home in this elegant city, as well as wide avenues of lovely terraced houses.

One way to differentiate value is to compare the price per square foot. This is commonly used in prime central London and can easily be applied to properties in Bath. Interestingly houses in Bath tend to have a lower price per square foot than flats.

Many properties have views over the city which can bring an added dimension to your home. Of course the famous Roman-built baths are a major draw. The city became a World Heritage Site in 1987.

The many attractions of the city both in terms of culture and architecture ensure a thriving property market for those looking to enhance their standard of living.

Countryside Relocation

There are different considerations when thinking of a move out of a city and of course one of these is the price to pay for your home. In the current market in general you are going to be able to purchase a larger property for the same amount outside of the city of Bath. Other points might be the lack of neighbours which can be a good thing and a larger garden to occupy your time. There is a good choice of varying size houses available in the market; though the most popular are probably the family sized houses of four to five bedrooms, often period farmhouses which can be in short supply being normally only one per farm!

Much of the countryside is crisscrossed by footpaths and bridleways with plenty of opportunities for leisure activities or equestrian pursuits. You can find that many villages have active sports and social clubs and it is always, if possible, to get involved. This is also a particularly good way to integrate into village life, and don’t miss the opportunity to participate in the village yearly fete! It is equally possible to get away from it all in a secluded valley or a hamlet off the beaten track where just about all you can hear are birdsong and the occasional cattle. These can of course wake you very early in the morning during the summer months, this being probably the best time to be in the countryside of course. Country pursuits can be a big part of life out of town if you want them to be. The Avonvale hunt are quite active in the area plus there is plenty of opportunity to join local shoots and some excellent river on the River Bourne.

Babbington House is nearby which brings the occasional celebrity to town including David Beckham on one occasion. There are lovely villages close to Chippenham where you can easily catch the mainline train into London or further north you can venture into the Cotswolds which is an area of outstanding natural beauty and has some lovely property in some stunning scenery both of which is world famous for you are prepared to pay a little bit more for it.

“As a busy professional who travels for work a lot, I needed help finding a property in the competitive Bath market. When I was recommended to City to Country I wasn’t sure what to expect, but they supported me throughout: from filtering properties and undertaking preliminary viewings, right through to negotiations and keeping the conveyancing process on track to completion!

The communication was excellent during the whole process and Michael’s expertise was invaluable, especially as I was a first time buyer. I am convinced that had it not been for Michael’s help I would not have found a property this year – an invaluable service that I would not hesitate to recommend, thank you Michael!”
